Quite literally following in C.J. Baxter's footsteps, Texas running back Quintrevion Wisner announced he planned to enter the transfer portal when it opened on January 2.
Baxter and Wisner weren't the only running backs who announced their plans to leave this postseason, joining Rickey Stewart Jr. and Jerrick Gibson.
With the Longhorns' two most experienced running backs and another pair of RBs heading for the portal, head coach Steve Sarkisian was set to lead a very different offensive roster than he did this year. However, despite the lengthy list of players leaving, the Horns shouldn't hit the panic button yet.
Texas quarterback Arch Manning actually ran for the most rushing touchdowns (8) this season, well ahead of Wisner (3) and Baxter (0) combined. He also earned the second-most rushing yards (244), only trailing Wisner, who earned 597 yards on the ground this year.
Arch Manning has the running backs he needs
Not to mention, with a program as powerful as Texas, those four weren't the only running backs on the depth chart this season. Christian Clark and James Simon earned a combined 253 yards and one touchdown (Clark) on the ground.
Clark and Simon will be the two running backs most familiar with Sarkisian's offense next year, but they won't be the only running backs in the room. Sark just finished signing yet another top-10 recruiting class, which included four-star running back Derrek Cooper.
Cooper was the No. 10 RB in the class of 2026 and was expected to make a huge impact for whichever team he signed with, much less a team that just experienced a blood-letting of players at his position.
Sarkisian can also tap into the transfer portal itself to gain a few more veteran players for his depth chart, including Jacksonville State's Cam Cook, who is a Texas native, as well as NC State's Hollywood Smothers, Washington's Adam Mohammed, or Missouri's Marquise Davis.
