Texas football battled, but it was not enough. The Buckeyes stepped up in the biggest moments to down the Horns 28-14 in the College Football Playoff Semifinals.
It was not an overly clean game for the Longhorns, but they were in a position to win when it mattered most.
Season comes to an end for Texas football with a 14-point loss to Ohio State in the College Football Playoff semifinals
This team showed incredible reliance all season long, something that will not be forgotten as the team, coaching staff, and fanbase reflect on the third 13-win season in Texas program history.
As is the case with any season, the Horns will see a tremendous core of seniors depart after what can only be seen as tenures that lifted Texas football out of the ashes and into a new age for the program.
Quinn Ewers, Jahdae Barron, Barryn Sorrell and others have nothing to hang their heads about. Their time in Austin was transformative for a program that had been meddling for the better half of a decade.
For the returners, the next time they see game action will be August 30 in Columbus, Ohio. They will not forget this result.
Here is everything Texas players said after the heartbreaking loss to Ohio State.
Quinn Ewers, QB
"It sucks to be on this side of things, for sure -- back-to-back years, pretty much the game decided in one play. It's hard, , all the work that we put in, being in the Final Four back-to back-years, and coming up short two years, it's tough."
"Like Coach Sark said, it's the life of a competitor. It sucks being on this side of things back to back years, pretty much a game decided on one play. And it's hard, all the work that we put in, being in the Final Four back to back years and coming up short, it's tough."
On the fourth-and-goal sack: "I felt him. I started drifting away. I thought I was going to be able to get the ball off before he got there. It's not like I tried to give them the game. I saw Jack running with the ball down the sideline. It sucks man."
“We grind together and the love grows together. It’s just been a really cool season. I’m so proud to be a Longhorn.”
Jahdae Barron, DB
"Coach Sark, he's changed my life completely. I'm a totally different person in the way I carry myself."
"It's going to be amazing for these guys, and the reason they're going to be amazing is because Coach Sark and what he's about. It's nothing about football. It's culture and who you are as a person."
"Just growing up in Austin and having the opportunity to wear Burnt Orange, it's been amazing."
Anthony Hill, LB
What he is taking into year three: "Just how to be a better leader. I feel like I did a great job communicating, understanding concepts and defensive sets, and where I need to be on the football field."
Barryn Sorrell, EDGE
"Just going back to thinking about when I signed, it's just been a journey. There are so many great memories that I'll always have and I'm thankful for it. I'm so blessed and happy leaving it better than I found it."
On how he wants to be remembered as a Longhorn: "Someone that came in and set a new standard and exceeded the standard that was set before us ... for the guys behind us to take my lessons and take what I tried to teach them in our room and throughout this team and hopefully they can exceed the standard that we set."
Kelvin Banks Jr, LT
Banks was frustrated on the team’s final drive in the red zone because improving in the red area has been a point of emphasis all season.
Banks said he has yet to make a decision regarding the 2025 NFL Draft.
