'Feels like a loss for offense': Manning gets real about Texas' offensive struggles

Texas was able to squeak out an overtime win over Kentucky in Lexington this weekend, and Arch Manning realizes that he and the offense have to play a lot better in these types of games. Despite the offense looking a little more effective in the second half, Manning and the passing game only produced 132 total yards through the air.

Arch only completed 40% of his pass attempts on the night as well, missing quite a few crucial throws on third downs throughout the game. For some reason, his accuracy was incredibly off all night long despite being "okay" in terms of timing.

He consistently overthrew wide-open targets and seemed jittery in the pocket all night long.

When asked about getting the win against Kentucky afterwards, Arch said:

"We get the best of both worlds. Feels like a loss for offense. We get to attack practice this week to improve. But we also get the win."

On one hand, it's great that Arch recognizes the offensive failure and appears to be heading into week 9 with a great attitude, but it's worrisome that he's playing so wildly inconsistent every other game. His overall performance against the Wildcats was inexcusable, and he needs to realize that this type of game can't happen again going forward.

The Longhorns are heading to Starkville, MS, in week 9 to face a scrappy Mississippi State team that can actually take advantage of Texas' mistakes if this type of thing happens again. The Bulldogs' passing defense has been pretty decent so far in 2025, and they're holding opposing passing offenses to 6.7 yards per pass, which is top-35 in the NCAA right now. They're also only allowing quarterbacks to complete 59.02% of their pass attempts, which is good for 28th-best in the league in that category.

Here's to hoping that Arch has an excellent week of practice and learns from his atrocius week 8 showing.
