Former Texas wide receiver Johntay Cook II was arrested on the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 4 on charges of property theft and interference with public duties.
Cook left the Longhorns after seeing limited field time during the 2024 season and transferred to the Washington Huskies program before leaving the team just a few days after arriving on campus.

Cook's charges include the specificities that the property theft he committed was between the value of $100 and $750.
The bond amount for Cook's release after the arrest was not included in the initial social media post. The former Longhorn was arrested in Tarrant County, Texas which is where Fort Worth is located. Cook is from Desoto, Texas which is just south of Dallas and southeast of Fort Worth.
Cook played two seasons for the Longhorns before entering the transfer portal. Throughout his two seasons at Texas, Cook had just 16 receptions for 173 yards and two touchdowns.
When Cook transferred to Washington, he was expected to add the much-needed veteran experience to the Huskies program. However, less than a month after he had committed to the program, Cook and Washington head coach Jedd Fisch came to a mutual decision that he would no longer be on the team.
When, and if, the former Longhorn finds another program to play for, Cook will be a junior in 2025. He played in 20 games for Texas before he announced that he would leave the program in the middle of the 2024 season.
Cook's last reception for the Horns was in their first-ever SEC game against the Mississippi State Bulldogs. He didn't see the field after that game.
