Texas parted ways with a few assistant coaches and staffers recently, and one of them has officially found their new home for the 2026 season.

Chad Scott, the Longhorns' running backs coach in 2025, will be joining good friend and new HC Neal Brown at North Texas. Scott and Brown worked together for a long time at West Virginia a while back, and now the two reunite again in Denton.

It was a tough decision for Steve Sarkisian to get rid of Scott, but sometimes in order for a program to grow and improve, it's crucial to make some calculated changes in key areas.

Before Scott came to Texas in 2025, he spent a few seasons with Brown at WVU, and the Mountaineers produced some pretty good running backs during his tenure. He recruited and coached Leddie Brown, Jaylen Anderson, C.J. Donaldson, and Jaheim White just to name a few.

Though he didn't have the most success in Austin this year with Tre Wisner, C.J. Baxter, and Co., he's still seen in college football world as a very talented assistant coach.

He'll have to basically rebuild the Mean Green running back room from scratch as their star ball-carrier, Caleb Hawkins, followed new Oklahoma State HC Eric Morris to Stillwater. North Texas does still have Makenzie McGill II though, so that's a good piece for Scott to have going forward.

It'll be interesting to see how Scott does in Denton, as he'll probably be there for at least a couple of seasons with Brown.
