The Packers drafted former Longhorn edge rusher Barryn Sorrell in round 4 of the 2025 NFL Draft in hopes of revitalizing and revamping their lackluster pass rush performance from last season. They only produced 26 QB pressures from their defensive ends last season, which was well below league average.
Sorrell has been incredibly productive throughout his first NFL offseason practice schedule and continues to impress in training camp now that the pads are finally on.
He's been lining up all over the place for Green Bay's defense both inside and out. He's spent time blitzing the A gaps in practice in certain sub-packages, and has been consistently working with the 2nd-team defense alongside Kingsley Enagbare. It's incredible that Sorrell's already that high on the Packer's depth chart as a 4th-round pick. It says something that Sorrell's getting just as many reps as Brenton Cox Jr. right now, whom the defensive staff has grown to like quite a bit.
Sorrell has great size (6'3", 256 lbs.) and length for the position, and he looks to be at home in the Packers' defensive scheme. He's able to pin his ears back and get after the quarterback like he was so good at doing at Texas.

Despite being one of the Longhorns' under-the-radar draft picks this year, he's certainly been garnering the attention of HC Matt LaFleur over the past couple of months.
According to Packers.com, when LaFleur was recently asked about Sorrell he said:
"He’s done a great job. You can kind of get a good feel for the character of the guy. And he is just A-plus in terms of just how he is going to approach everything. He will absolutely, I think, reach his ceiling … because of how he approaches the game. And the time he puts in. And how detailed he is.
You can coach him hard. He takes everything to heart. I think he’s getting better every day. I think he’s still got a lot to learn. So, it’s going to be fun to see just that evolution take place throughout the course of camp and into the regular season."
As things currently stand, and if he has a productive preseason, Sorrell could end up seeing regular playing time as a rotational pass rusher for Green Bay in 2025.
