Former Texas RB and Cowboys' 5th-round pick making waves in the offseason

In 2024, Jaydon Blue was an important piece of Steve Sarkisian's offense alongside Quintrevion Wisner in the Texas backfield. Blue was garnering hype as an incredibly dynamic player, both as a runner and pass catcher out of the backfield. Now he's carried that excitement over to the NFL.

Blue was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the 5th round of the 2025 NFL Draft back in April, and he's spent the last couple of months impressing the coaching staff. His calling card or specialty towards the end of his collegiate career revolved around his speed and deadly receiving ability on different screen, "Texas", flat, and swing routes.

From the sound of it, Dallas has been impressed with his elusiveness and stop/start ability throughout summer practices. The coaching staff will be keeping a close eye on Blue's performance and progression throughout training camp to see what kind of workload he can handle in an offense that desperately needs a spark heading into the 2025 season.

This isn't the first time that Blue has drawn comparisons to the Saints' All-Pro running back since the NFL Combine, and though Blue's about 15 pounds lighter than Kamara, their playstyle is almost identical.

Blue also has an incredibly clear path to legitimate playing time in Dallas, with Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders being more "dart throws" than locked-in RB1/RB2 types. Blue is also the type of weapon that'll be hard for the Cowboys' coaching staff to keep off the field in 2025.

He'll most likely be used as the team's 3rd-down back to start off the year, with the skillset and potential to see a handful of early-down carries each game as the season goes on. If Blue can fix the fumbling problem that he had at Texas, then the sky's the limit for the Houston native.
