Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian are on a roll this week recruiting in the NCAA Transfer Portal in the winter window. Texas landed three portal commitments in the span of roughly 24 hours on Friday and Saturday among the transfer visitors who were on campus early this weekend at key positions of need on defense and special teams.

Not only did the three portal additions the Longhorns made this weekend add depth at key positions for multiple sides of the ball, but it also helps to solidify Texas's contender status in the SEC for the 2025 season. Texas still has a lot of work to do in the portal in the winter transfer window over the next few weeks, but this staff is off to an excellent start in the first week so far.

Texas is still prioritizing adding positions like wide receiver, running back, tight end, defensive line, linebacker, cornerback, and kicker from the transfer portal for the upcoming offseason.

According to the 247Sports Team Transfer Rankings, Texas's 2025 portal cycle class ranks 20th in the nation.

The Longhorns' faithful should feel good about what the coaching staff has done so far in the transfer portal after the big haul for the past couple of days. Here's the complete portal grades from the Longhorns' first-week transfer haul from the portal in the winter window.

Jack Bouwmeester, P

The first portal commitment the Longhorns picked up this week was Dec. 13 with the signing of former Utah Utes senior grad transfer punter Jack Bouwmeester. The All-Big 12 Second-Team punter for the Utes led the Big 12 in total punting yards, average hangtime, and punt attempts.

Bouwmeester, a First-Team All-Pac-12 selection for Utah in 2023, led the Pac-12 in yards per punt last season.

Special teams coordinator Jeff Banks and the Longhorns prioritized upgrading the punting unit in the portal in the winter transfer window. Bouwmeester gives the Longhorns more stability with the punting game next season and the ability to flip field position.
