Since taking over on the 40 Acres, Texas baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle has trotted out some of the best pitchers in the nation, including current Longhorns like Sam Cozart and Dylan Volantis.
That much looks like it will continue for years to come after right-handed pitcher Jack Postma, the No. 82 overall prospect in the class of 2028 and the No. 2 prospect out of Illinois, committed to the Horns over a slew of powerhouse programs trying to land him.
At 6-foot-5 and over 200 pounds, Postma is quite literally a massive commit for the Horns, adding an unbelievably elite fastball to the Texas bullpen.
With two high school seasons still ahead of him, Postma has already thrown a 92.5-mile-per-hour fastball and has logged a similarly impressive curveball, hitting the 78-mph mark.
Postma already has a build similar to that of Volantis, who became one of Texas's go-to starting pitchers during the past season. With another year and a half of high school still in front of him, it shouldn't come as a surprise if Postma grows a couple of inches and tacks on a few pounds, putting him closer to Cozart's frame.
Texas baseball class of 2028 is coming together perfectly
Postma is far from the first blue-chip prospect to commit to Texas out of the class of 2028, joining six other future Longhorns in the top 100 of their recruiting class in doing so, including the No. 1 overall prospect, Theo Swafford.
- Theo Swafford, infielder
- Chase Cotton, RHP
- Tommy Driver, RHP
- Parker Klung, RHP
- Colton Small, LHP
- Jake Welch, infielder
- Jack Postma, RHP
However, a baseball commitment continues to mean even less than a commitment to other collegiate sports. More often than not, these top prospects head straight to Major League Baseball from high school, forgoing their collegiate eligibility.
So, you see top teams like Texas end up with dozens upon dozens of commitments, but only a handful of those commits end up wearing burnt orange in their career.
That's why you can already see a lengthy list of pitchers in Schlossnagle's class of 2028, Postma joining fellow right-handed pitchers Chase Cotton, Tommy Driver, and Parker Klung, as well as lefty Colton Small.
So far, Texas's class of 2028 ranks second in the nation, only trailing the Florida Gators. The Horns' class of 2027 ranked in the same spot with 18 commitments, second only to the LSU Tigers. The 2026 class ranked fourth in the country, and Schlossnagle's first-ever recruiting class at Texas was the top one in the nation in 2025.
Schlossnagle and the Longhorns are a perfect pairing on the recruiting trail, and we will continue to see that pay off with more commitments from top-100 prospects like Postma.
