Kelvin Banks Jr. injury update before kickoff vs. Georgia
Per a report from ESPN's Chris Low on Dec. 7, junior Texas football starting left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. won't be active for the SEC Championship Game against the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon.
Banks was reportedly seen in pregame warmups for the Longhorns in street clothes and with a brace on that injured left ankle.
On the final SEC injury report update for the SEC Championship Game on Dec. 7, Banks was listed as a "game time decision". Before the SEC injury report update early on Saturday afternoon, Banks was listed with a status of "questionable" for the Longhorns.
Last weekend, in the win over the No. 20 Texas A&M Aggies in the Lone Star Showdown in College Station, Banks suffered an ankle injury in the first half that caused him to miss the rest of the game. Banks was seen in street clothes on the Texas sideline in the second half of the win over A&M at Kyle Field last Saturday.
Redshirt freshman offensive tackle Trevor Goosby played the rest of the game at left tackle for the Longhorns after Banks suffered the lower-body injury in the first half. Goosby didn't allow any sacks or quarterback pressures in over 40 pass-blocking snaps against Texas A&M's defensive front in Week 14.
Goosby will make the first start of his collegiate career in the SEC title game this afternoon against Georgia at left tackle for Texas's offensive line.
Texas has four players out for the SEC Championship Game against Georgia, including sophomore safety Derek Williams Jr., freshman running back Christian Clark, sophomore running back CJ Baxter Jr., and senior running back Velton Gardner.
The SEC title game between Texas (11-1, 7-1 SEC) and Georgia (10-2, 6-2 SEC) kicks off at 3 p.m. CT on Dec. 7 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, GA.
