It looks like the Longhorns have made some serious headway in the recruitment of one of Texas' top-ranked high school cornerbacks in the 2027 class. 4-star CB Montre Jackson from Lakeview Centennial HS in Garland, TX appears to be "leaning heavily" towards Texas right now after many believed that he'd be a lock to Ole Miss or Texas Tech.
Jackson has good size at 6'0", 185 lbs. and he's been an absolute ballhawk at the prep level since he became a full time starter. He had 9 pass breakups in 2025 and he was responsible for stopping quite a few big plays as a junior.
He's been skyrocketing up the recruiting boards lately, and that's an incredibly good thing for Texas.

He's very good in trail technique, and his above-average acceleration allows him to close in on receivers when the ball enters their bubble, leading to consistent pass breakups downfield.
One of his most impressive traits is his ability to be incredibly effective in the quick game, which is where high school defensive backs usually struggle. Defending whip, slant, and quick out routes are very hard for prep cornerbacks to defend because they usually don't have the loose hips and explosion to stay with the receivers in that small of an area.
Jackson undoubtedly does, and it was almost impossible for quarterbacks to target the reciever he was covering in 2025, specifically in the redzone.
If Texas CB Coach Mark Orphey can continue making good progress with Jackson and ultimately get him to commit, the Longhorns would be in an excellent spot at cornerback going forward, now that they also got Samari Matthews in the 2026 class.
