Longhorns' dynamic duo tame the Missouri Tigers on the road

Texas Women's Basketball began its SEC Schedule tonight on the road in Missouri as they took on the Tigers. Texas had a rough first half as they allowed the Tigers to dictate the pace of the game.

Texas women's basketball began its SEC Conference schedule last night in Missouri as they took on the Mizzou Tigers. That first quarter was one that Vic Schaefer might want to go over with the ladies after the game. Allowing 83% from beyond the Arc and 69% field goal percentage in the first quarter is something that they shouldn't be proud of.

However, Madison Booker and Jordan Lee took over the game as Texas beat Mizzou 89-71.

I hope the ladies learned a lot about the SEC Conference during the game. Just because you are the second-best team in the country doesn't mean that you'll have an easy conference schedule. The teams that are on Texas' schedule would like nothing more than to pull off a stunning upset and move the Longhorns down the rankings.

Let's take a look at four takeaways from Thursday's win on the road against Mizzou.

1. Did anyone else other than Madison Booker want to play tonight?

Watching the first and second quarters, the only player who was drawing my attention was Madison Booker. As for the rest of the players, it seems like they were still on their holiday break. Booker can't carry the team on her shoulders for the entire conference schedule. Other players need to step it up and contribute to the game on both sides of the ball.

Thank you to Jordan Lee, who came to Booker's rescue late.

2. Excessive three-point shots

There will be games where you live by the three or die by the three. Last night, the Longhorns were very lucky to walk away with the win as they had an excessive three-point shooting performance. 3-11 in the first half of the game, and 8-21 overall is something you should not be proud of, despite winning. The Longhorns have to chill out and drive to the basket. That's where the Longhorns are the most effective when it comes to scoring. Don't keep trying to force three-point shots when you don't have a good look at the rim.

3. Winning the battle on the boards

The Longhorns did a good job of rebounding the ball and making sure that the Tigers didn't get many second-chance opportunities as the game went along. While the Longhorns have some work to do in this area, the reason why they won the game was partly because of this. Booker and Lee were the main reasons why the Longhorns regained the lead and won the game. Hopefully, the Longhorns can do better on the boards against Ole Miss this weekend.

4. I was happy with the turnovers tonight

It took a while for the Longhorns' defense to get going, but I was happy with the 30 turnovers the Longhorns forced. That really put a dent in the Tigers' offense, making shot after shot to begin the game. The Longhorns need to be that aggressive after the opening tip-off.

They can't afford to wait until the second quarter to start the turnovers. If the Longhorns were playing South Carolina last night, the Longhorns would have been left in the dust.
