In a recent interview with ESPN's This is Football, Jordan Love had some intriguing and exciting things to say about former Longhorn wide receiver Matthew Golden and his overall performance so far.

Love was asked who the most impressive newcomer was, and he immediately said "Matthew Golden" without any form of hesitation. To Longhorn football fans, this isn't surprising, as he was an incredibly talented and explosive player for Texas' offense in 2024.

Aside from that simple fact, he's been on the receiving end of a lot of big plays for the Packers offense throughout the spring and summer. His incredible route-running ability and separation skills have been on full display, and it wouldn't be surprising to see Golden being a top-two receiver for Green Bay heading into the 2025 season.

The interviewer then asked Love to take him through what's made Golden so special so far for the Packers' offense:

"Man, I think he's shown up since day one and just really shown his play style, you know, showing what he's all about. I think he came in really polished and has been making plays since day one. He's got very aggressive hands. He's a smooth route runner. He's got speed. So I think for him, it's just continuing to understand the playbook and wrap his head around everything that we have in because we have a very deep system. But when you can see, when he knows what he's doing, he's feeling confident. He's been playing lights out, he's gonna be stud."

With Jayden Reed pretty much having locked down the slot receiver role, Golden will most likely work as the team's "Z" receiver going forward, which could be perfect for his skill set. The team can line him up anywhere and motion him around the formation in order to take advantage of bad personnel matchups and/or to utilize him on misdirection plays.

Longhorn Nation will be rooting for Golden's success this season, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him have the best rookie year out of all the wide receivers selected in the 2025 NFL Draft.
