The Minister of Culture in Austin is none other than Matthew McConaughey. The former Texas student turned avid Longhorn fan is a huge presence on the sidelines at Darrell K Royal Texas-Memorial Stadium every weekend.

After the loss to Georgia on Saturday and the disappointing incident when fans threw water bottles and trash onto the field, McConaughey released a statement to Longhorn Nation:

McConaughey first became the UT M.O.C. in December of 2018 and has since stepped into the role wholeheartedly. Appearing on the sidelines for everything from football games to track meets, he is heavily involved in the Texas athletic program.

However, the Longhorns head coach hasn't even released an official statement. Steve Sarkisian walked across the field and asked students to stop at the moment and has since said that the “passionate fanbase” needs to use “better discretion.”

For McConaughey to issue a statement, it feels like the people who encircle the program are doing a bit too much or forcing themselves to be a part of the solution that has nothing to do with them.

The statement from the Minister of Culture, which is already a bizarre role, is simply unnecessary and makes it look like Sarkisian isn't doing enough.

The University of Texas received a $250,000 fine along with a few other sanctions due to the bottle-throwing incident and students, who are suspected of taking part, are reportedly receiving texts that they are no longer welcome to attend games.

At the end of the day, let the University handle the issue and let Sarkisian speak for his program's fans. McConaughey simply needs to take a back seat for this one.
