Meet the 2027 WR recruit that Texas thinks could be a 'Mike Evans-type' player

The Longhorns officially offer the top wide receiver prospect in the 2027 class, adding to his list of over 40+ offers.

Steve Sarkisian and this coaching staff are constantly looking for ways to improve the explosiveness of Texas' offense, with a heavy focus on player acquisition both in the transfer portal and at the high school level.

Their newest target, 5-star WR Monshun Sales from Indianapolis, IN, has the potential to develop into the next "big thing" when it comes to collegiate wide receivers.

The 6'5", 200-pound wideout has been one of the most dominant pass-catchers at the prep level since his sophomore year at Lawrence North HS. He's an athletic freak whose unmatched length and physicality have made it almost impossible for defenders to slow him down, especially on deep balls. He looks like Mike Evans at the high school level, consistently "mossing" defenders at the catch point.

Sales is a contested-catch specialist at "X" and is incredibly productive from a big-play standpoint. In 2025, he caught 37 passes for 794 yards (21.5 yards per catch) and scored 9 touchdowns. He also added 56 tackles on defense and helped his school get to the playoffs as a junior.

It's fairly safe to say that Andrew Ivins, 247Sports' Director of Scouting, is pretty bullish on the dominant receiver as well, with his most recent description:

"One of the biggest freakshows in the country with his hulking frame and elite athletic markers. Projects as a potential game-wrecker for a College Football Playoff contender."

This is the type of wide receiver recruit that the college football world hasn't seen in a while, and if the Longhorns can persuade him to Austin, Texas' passing game could become elite. Whoever ends up starting at quarterback after Arch Manning would undoubtedly have an elite, super-sized pass-catcher to throw the ball to on Saturdays.
