Last week, Longhorns offensive lineman Nick Brooks was arrested while driving intoxicated. Now, new details of his arrest are being made available to the public.

According to the Travis County Sheriff's Office and an online affidavit from OutKick, the 18-year-old was driving while under the influence of marijuana. The arresting officer in Austin said he caught Brooks going 47 mph in a 30 zone on West 6th Street. Brooks's eyes were also bloodshot and watery, the officer said.

Brooks admitted to the officers that he had smoked a marijuana vape pen, along with a 'blunt", before driving his car, according to the arrest report. He also said that he smoked the pen three times and said it was a 'good pen" and he was also "feeling it."

Things get worse for Brooks

During his conversation with officers, Brooks reportedly said he was coming from a club called " Play," a 21-and-up club that made exemptions for UT football players. Brook also said he was " taking the prospective players to the Bare Strip club next," the affidavit stated.

At the scene, Brooks failed sobriety tests and had body tremors that caused his entire body to shake while trying to stand on one leg. A breath test did not detect any alcohol, according to the affidavit.

On April 27, Brooks was booked into Travis County jail and was released on a person recognizance bound.

Nick Brooks background

Entering college, Brooks was a four-star prospect out of Grayson High School. He arrived in Austin this spring alongside future stars such as wide receivers Michael Terry III, Kaliq Lockett, and Jaime Ffrench, quarterback K.J. Lacey, and defensive lineman Justus Terry. That group has high expectations for the next four years.

Before Brooks decided to join Texas, he had received offers from some of the top programs in the country. That includes Florida State, Michigan, LSU, Miami, Auburn, North Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Colorado, Iowa State, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Tennessee. He visited Georgia, Iowa, USC, and Texas during the recruiting process before making a final decision.

After entering the program with high expectations, this is not the start Brooks wanted to get off to. More on this situation should come out in the coming days. For Brooks, it is certainly an incident he would like to pass on as quickly as possible and learn from.
