On a segment on ESPN on Sunday, reporter Adam Schefter tossed out the knowledge that Texas football head coach Steve Sarkisian has been drawing interest from multiple NFL teams. This news comes as Sarkisian and Texas prepare to face head coach Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes in the College Football Playoff semifinals at the Cotton Bowl on Jan. 10.

"I would expect some teams to call and inquire about Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian, who's drawn some interest from the NFL level."

Texas football head coach Steve Sarkisian is reportedly drawing interest from NFL teams with coaching vacancies

Given Sarkisian's past experience in the NFL, with the Atlanta Falcons as OC in 2017 and 2018 and the Oakland Raiders as QB coach in 2004, the interest makes complete sense in the Longhorns' head coach.

It's also been discussed that Sarkisian's buyout is a much lower dollar amount than other top head coaches in college football.

A report from 247Sports' Matt Zenitz a couple of months ago has indicated that "Sarkisian is more likely to remain at Texas", despite the interest coming from various NFL teams for the upcoming offseason.

Sarkisian has led the Longhorns to back-to-back appearances in the College Football Playoff. Texas has won two games in the inaugural 12-team Playoff in the 2024-25 postseason, and is now one game away from making it to the College Football Playoff National Championship game if the Longhorns upset Ohio State next week.

The quarterback recruiting and development and the offensive play calling success Sarkisian had in his pro-style offensive system/scheme at Texas makes him a natural fit as a potential college head coach in the modern day NFL.

Many of the NFL's top head coaches in this day and age of the league are gifted offensive play callers.

The focus for Sarkisian and the Longhorns remains on the Playoff semifinals matchup on Jan. 10 against Ohio State at the Cotton Bowl at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX. Texas had been favored in the pregame betting odds in every game this season until the Playoff semis against Ohio State.
