Texas got the weekend underway with a 13-4 run-rule win over the Maryland Terrapins in five innings on Friday evening. The Longhorns then defeated former Stanford ace transfer NiJaree Canady and Texas Tech in a clutch nine-inning 2-1 victory on Friday night (Feb. 14).
Joley Mitchell scored the game-winning run for a walk-off win against Red Raiders in the bottom of the ninth inning on a fielders choice play for the 2-1 win over Canady and Texas Tech. Teagan Kavan spun a gem, pitching nine innings with just four hits allowed and one earned run to claim her third victory of this regular season.
Behind a couple of big offensive outings from Katie Stewart and Reese Atwood, the Longhorns cruised to convincing wins over the UMass Minutemen and Maryland on Saturday by a combined margin of double-digit runs.
Texas's most impressive performance of the weekend for the Bevo Classic was another gem on the mound from Kavan against the Red Raiders. Kavan pitched four shutout innings on the mound in a 11-0 thrashing in a run-rule five inning win over Texas Tech on Sunday.
Stewart had another huge outing for the Longhorns at the plate in the double-digit win over Texas Tech on Feb. 16, including a team-high five runs batted in and three hits. Per D1Softball, Stewart now ranks in the top 10 in the SEC in runs batted in this season, with 18, after the big weekend at the plate for the sophomore.
The Longhorns host the Akron Zips on Wednesday evening (Feb. 19) at 6 p.m. CT for Texas's sixth straight contest at McCombs Field in Austin.
