With almost exactly one week remaining until the start of preseason camp for Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian on July 31, we can smell the start of the 2024 regular season. It seems like just a month ago spring ball wrapped up for Texas, so this offseason has moved along very quickly.

Texas is also under 50 days away from the 2024 regular season opener at home at DKR in Austin on Aug. 31 against the Colorado State Rams.

In preparing for the Longhorns' inaugural season in the SEC this year, it's worth taking a look at which players are slotted in the most important roles for this team to succeed on the field this fall. On both sides of the ball, the Longhorns have a plethora of depth and talent to give Sarkisian a title-contending squad in their first year in the SEC.

We will be going through the 10 most important players on each side of the ball over the next couple of days in the lead up to the start of training camp next Wednesday.

Here are the 10 most important offensive players for the Longhorns leading up to the 2024 season.

10. Matthew Golden, WR

Texas brought in multiple immediate impact transfers to reload the receiving corps that lost all three starters to the NFL Draft this offseason. Alabama transfer Isaiah Bond, Houston's Matthew Golden, and Oregon State's Silas Bolden should all be big parts of the offense for the Longhorns in 2024.

"To think, I’ve got seven quality players there. Now, is it going to be a seven-man rotation? That will bear itself out, but I do think we’ll play more players than we have in the past."

The Houston transfer and potential early-to-middle round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft will impact Texas on offense and special teams this fall. Golden was one of the best skill players in the Big 12 on special teams in the return game last season, returning two punts/kicks for touchdowns in 2023.

Golden will be one of the most dynamic and versatile wide receivers for the Longhorns this season. He's not only one of the faster guys in the wide receiver room, but he can also stretch the field vertically for Texas's passing game this season.

9. Cam Williams, OT

The big 6-foot-5 and 335-pound junior offensive tackle, Cameron Williams, finally gets his shot to start at right tackle this year. Texas needed someone to step up and fill the shoes left by a multi-year starter at right tackle in the last few seasons, Christian Jones, after he exhausted his eligibility this offseason.

Williams proved he could be that guy this spring, staving off a push from multiple other offensive linemen for Kyle Flood and the Longhorns to take away his starting reps in camp. He was good in his first career start against the Kansas State Wildcats, not allowing a single quarterback pressure in over 40 pass-blocking snaps in a key overtime win in the Big 12 in that game last year.

All indicators point toward Williams being a very successful pass blocker and an improved run blocker who can easily move bodies off the line of scrimmage as a first-year starter this season.
