2 2025 SEC DT flip targets Texas offered this week

Texas is targeting other Southeastern out-of-state defensive linemen in the 2025 recruiting class to try and flip entering the fall on the trail.

Joseph Mbatchou (Florida commit)

Possibly the most intriguing defensive line offer the Longhorns sent out earlier this week was three-star Loganville (GA) Grayson product and Florida Gators commit Joseph Mbatchou. The big and lengthy 6-foot-6 and 285-pound defensive tackle from Georgia just started playing football earlier in 2024.

Texas joined the Auburn Tigers and South Carolina Gamecocks among the SEC schools that offered Mbatchou in the couple of weeks since he committed to Florida late last month.

This was good timing for the Longhorns to offer Mbatchou when they did late this summer. Mbatchou has a great combination of size and athleticism. He's brimming with potential playing at defensive tackle and could be one of the fast risers among the many talented defensive line recruits in the 2025 class in SEC country in the Southeastern United States over the next few months during his senior season.

Mbatchou told Inside Texas this week that he is excited by the Texas offer. And it sounds like he's eager to get to campus for a gameday visit at DKR this fall.

"I’m excited to get to know everyone and everything. And to see if the saying ‘everything is bigger in Texas’ is accurate."

Mbatchou is reportedly already working with the Texas coaches and recruiting staff to get a gameday visit on the books to see the Longhorns play at DKR this fall.

It seems like targeting Mbatchou to possibly flip his commitment from the Gators this fall is more viable since his recruitment is more open than Bell's at the moment. Mbatchou committed to the Gators a few weeks ago (July 31). He committed to Florida just a few days after he was offered by the Gators.

Florida was Mbatchou's first major P4 offer, and he had a good experience during his unofficial visit to Gainesville before the dead period in late July.

I like Texas's thought process of pursuing Mbatchou as a high-upside flip target in the 2025 class, especially with how difficult the schedule is this fall for head coach Billy Napier and the Gators.
