Texas remains the apparent frontrunner for the No. 1 athlete recruit in the nation in the 2025 class in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking, San Antonio (TX) Alamo Heights five-star Michael Terry III.

After a successful gameday visit to Lincoln to see the Nebraska Cornhuskers handily defeat the Colorado Buffaloes, head coach Matt Rhule's squad had some momentum in this recruitment. But Texas was able to swing momentum back in its favor with Terry after he had a good experience during his gameday visit at DKR to see the Longhorns defeat the UTSA Roadrunners last weekend.

Terry having so many positive experiences under his belt with multiple visits to Austin since the spring is an important data point to follow in this recruitment. He's visited Texas much more often than the other schools among his top three group this fall on the trail, including Nebraska in second place and Oregon trailing behind in third.

Inside Texas' Justin Wells reported that the Texas-Georgia game on Oct. 19 at DKR is likely going to be the final remaining gameday visit for Terry this fall before he's ready to make his decision. Getting the final visit with Terry before he's ready to decide obviously gives the Longhorns a big leg up in this recruitment over Nebraska and Oregon.

Texas's lead in this recruitment has reportedly only continued to grow in the past few weeks. And it sounds like Terry is getting closer to a decision, which is something we've heard consistently from this recruitment since the end of summer official visits.

As it stands right now, I'd give the Longhorns the decided edge in the race to land Terry's commitment over Nebraska and Oregon. If Texas knocks it out of the park during Terry's unofficial visit to DKR for the Georgia game next month, that could be the sealing factor to get him in the boat in the Longhorns 2025 class this fall.
