At his best, senior star Michigan running back Donovan Edwards is one of the best and most powerful players at his position in all of college football. Edwards has the ability to run just about any opposing linebacker or defensive back over once he gets his motor going with the ball in his hands.

At 6-foot-1 and 210 pounds, Edwards is one of the bigger and more sturdy backs that Texas will face this season. He is also probably the running back with the most raw talent in an NFL scouting lens that the Longhorns will face during the non-conference slate this fall.

What really separates Edwards, though, is his ability to display patience, speed, and balance while also being able to bowl over opposing defenders in the ground game for the Wolverines. He's also a gifted receiver out of the backfield with consistent hands and the ability to pick up big chunks of yardage when he gets the ball out in space.

Given his unique combination of physical tools and versatility to make plays happen out of the backfield, it's no surprise that Texas showed interest in Edwards during his recruitment out of high school. A few years back, the Longhorns offered Edwards under the former coaching regime led by ex-head coach Tom Herman early in the 2020 offseason.

Edwards was one of the highest-rated running back recruits in the nation in the 2021 class. He visited Texas shortly after he was offered by the Longhorns in February 2020.

The No. 2 running back recruit in the nation in the 2021 class in the 247Sports Composite would eventually commit to head coach Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines on signing day in December 2020.

Over a very productive four-year career at Michigan (since 2021), Edwards registered over 1,500 rushing yards, 15 rushing touchdowns, and 714 receiving yards with four touchdown catches. Edwards was a key contributor to the National Championship Michigan squad last season as a vital part of their ground game, along with star back Blake Corum.
