2 portal bigs Texas should target this summer
Javonte Brown-Ferguson, C
Senior seven-footer Javonte Brown-Ferguson entered the transfer portal for the third time in his collegiate career this spring. He spent one year with the Western Michigan Broncos as a reserve big man, putting up respectable numbers coming off the bench in nearly two-dozen games.
Brown averaged a career-high nine points per game, four rebounds, one assist, and one block in 16 minutes off the bench for the Broncos in 2023-24.
Before joining Western Michigan's frontcourt last season, Brown played two seasons for the Texas A&M Aggies and one for the UConn Huskies.
Brown is a productive rim protector and rebounder with the length to outmatch most opposing bigs in the paint on both ends of the floor.
I like what a veteran seven-footer like Brown could bring to the table for a Texas frontcourt that has some question markes entering next season. Adding a player like Brown could help the Longhorns be patient with the development of Vinson while not forcing senior power forward Ze'Rik Onyema into a role where he's playing too many key minutes in the frontcourt.
