Per a post on his Instagram account on July 16, former South Carolina sophomore right-handed pitcher Connor McCreery committed to the Longhorns. McCreery gives the Longhorns a reliable arm coming out of the bullpen who has multiple years of experience pitching in the SEC.

Texas has added an impressive stock of right-handed pitchers who will bolster the pen next season in the SEC. All six of Texas's transfer pitchers from the portal this summer, including McCreery, and right-handers.

Last season at South Carolina, McCreery registered a 3-1 record, 4.37 ERA, one save, 25 strikeouts, and 15 walks over 22.2 innings pitched and 19 mound appearances. He was one of the most improved arms in the South Carolina rotation year-over-year in 2023. McCreery reduced his ERA from 6.00 to 4.37 and kept his strikeout rate above one per inning during his sophomore campaign.

McCreery is an excellent strikeout pitcher who can be utilized in different situations out of the bullpen late in games. While averaging over one strikeout per inning in 2024, McCreery held opponents to a meager .190 batting average.

It's also noteworthy that McCreery didn't allow a single earned run in 14 of his 19 relief appearances on the mound last season (including over half of his appearances in SEC play).
