The second Texas running back to enter the transfer portal on April 22 was junior Savion Red. ESPN's Pete Thamel was the first to report on April 22 that Red is entering the transfer portal this spring. Red has two years of eligibility remaining after spending the last two seasons at Texas.

Over the last two seasons, the 5-foot-10 and 240-pound Red saw action in 21 games. He registered 30 carries for 131 rushing yards (4.4 yards per carry), one rushing touchdown, and a dozen first downs last season. Red also completed one passing attempt for 25 yards in 2023.

In 2022, Red racked up six catches for 34 receiving yards before converting from wide receiver to running back during the 2023 offseason.

Texas utilized Red's versatility in multiple ways in short-yardage situations out of the "Redcat formation" last season. His strong frame, powerful running style, and versatility made Red a specialist in third and fourth-down situations and in the red zone for Texas's offense.

With the heightened competition in the running back room this spring camp, Red was having to fight to even get third and fourth-team RB reps in practice.

Red is Texas's only scholarship running back who has entered the transfer portal so far this offseason.
