Decision date: Aug. 24

One of the most highly anticipated late-summer decisions on the recruiting trail for the 2025 class is for the elite five-star Galveston (TX) Ball athlete/safety Jonah Williams. The No. 1 safety recruit in the nation in the 2025 class in the nation in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking is set to announce on Saturday afternoon or evening.

Williams will decide between the Texas A&M Aggies, Oregon Ducks, LSU Tigers, and USC on Aug. 24. But this decision is largely expected to come down to either Texas or LSU this weekend for Williams.

On3's Steve Wiltfong reported on Aug. 22 that the "confidence has soared" for Texas in this recruitment since Williams had a good experience during his late-July unofficial visit to Austin.

Texas has looked good in this recruitment not only because of the successful visit Williams had to see the Longhorns for the late July pool party/BBQ bash, but also because of the hire of new head baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle this summer. Williams is still deciding whether he'll play baseball or football for his long term future.

Playing college baseball and/or going into the MLB Draft are both realistic options on the table for Williams in the next year or so.

Regarding the current status of his recruitment for football, though, Texas does look like the favorite a couple of days out from his Saturday decision. But I'm still not ready to classify this as a done deal for the Longhorns to land Williams, with LSU still communicating with him in the final stretches here.
