3 big standouts for Texas after Day 10 of spring practice
Tre Wisner pushing to secure third spot in the RB backfield
If one position group has received the bulk of the praise from the coaches and media alike in the last week or so, the running back room is one that deserves all of the recognition. The running backs stole the show during the red zone portion of last weekend's spring scrimmage, with sophomore Tre Wisner and junior Jaydon Blue combining for multiple touchdowns.
Multiple scrimmage reports and the buzz over the last few days have it that Blue or Wisner would be the deserving party for the offensive MVP coming out of last weekend's scrimmage. Blue and Wisner were the beneficiaries of the offensive line setting the tone in the trenches and opening the ever-important running lanes in the tight areas around the red zone for the backs to get to paydirt.
"On the offensive side of the ball, I thought Tre Wisner and Jaydon Blue had very good scrimmages, both played hard and played well and on the offensive line, Kelvin and Jake Majors had really good days."
Blue has arguably been the best running back in team drills in the last week and during the scrimmage on Saturday afternoon. He's been the more physical and consistent of the two top backs in the last week of practice for the Longhorns.
Wisner has made some impressive strides in his second spring camp. The staff is trusting him with more receiver reps out of the backfield in team drills and with more consistent carries with the first and second-team offensive units this spring, while still working behind Blue and sophomore CJ Baxter in the overall running back pecking order in camp.
The versatility and consistent effort Wisner has displayed in each spring practice this offseason is paying dividends for him. Sarkisian and Tashard Choice have both praised him at multiple opportunities when talking to the media this spring.
