3 big standouts for Texas in final week of spring practice
Jerrick Gibson, RB
One of the most impressive position groups for the Longhorns this spring has been running back. Texas's running back room has six quality scholarship players who all have different skill sets and plenty of versatility for Sarkisian to utilize in different ways on offense.
Tashard Choice's recruiting and development of this running back room in the last couple of years has elevated the depth and talent at the position this spring.
Two of the talented and promising backs on campus this spring that have made an impact in camp are true freshman early enrollees Jerrick Gibson and Christian Clark. Gibson and Clark have pushed for third-team running back reps this spring behind the top duo of junior Jaydon Blue and sophomore CJ Baxter Jr. on the two-deep in the backfield.
Gibson was specifically mentioned by Sarkisian for his strong showing in Tuesday's practice.
"I would say that today was Jerrick Gibson's best day now 13 practices in, which is what you hope for as a coach."
He complimented the versatility and consistent effort and improvement Gibson and Clark have shown down the stretch this spring camp.
Gibson and Clark are two backs that look like they're physically ready for the hard-nosed contact involved with running between the tackles in the SEC already as early enrollees this spring. They have shown toughness and the ability to run through would-be tacklers in space in the last few weeks of spring practice and it will be fun to see what they can do in DKR in the spring game this weekend.
