Max Abmas scores a career-high in an NCAA Tournament game with 30 points

All season long, Disu and senior guard Max Abmas have been the engine that drives the Longhorns success on the offensive end of the floor. Abmas and Disu have accounted for nearly half of Texas's points per game during the regular season and in conference play this year.

Disu's insane scoring run really started a little bit before this time last year when he caught fire and won the Big 12 Tournament MVP while leading the Longhorns to a conference title in the tourney. He stayed hot, leading Texas to two straight wins to open up in the 2023 NCAA Tournament.

All the while in the NCAA Tournament, Disu was well on his way to earning All-Tournament Team honors while averaging well over 20 points per game in Texas's first three tourney wins.

But an unfortunate lower-body injury ended Disu's scorching-hot run in the NCAA Tournament before he could really get going for the Longhorns against five-seed Xavier in the Sweet 16.

Thankfully, Texas still won that game against Xavier in the Sweet 16. Yet, Texas would go on to lose in the Elite Eight against Miami. Had Texas had Disu against Miami, I think the Longhorns probably would've gone to the Final Four for the first time since 2003 with All-American guard T.J. Ford.

This year, though, the Longhorns will be relying on this stud duo of Disu and Abmas to carry this team on another potential Sweet 16 run through the NCAA Tournament.

If Texas returned to the Elite Eight for the second consecutive year, it would also be the second time in Abmas's collegiate career that he would make it at least to the Sweet 16. The first time he made it to the Sweet 16 was during a Cinderella run where he had three straight games of at least 25 points with the 15-seed Oral Roberts.

What's crazy about that tournament run with Oral Roberts in 2021 was that in those three games, Abmas scored at least 25 points in each. But he never reached the 30-point mark.

Abmas has scored at least 30 points twice this season, but he's never done so in March Madness. This would be a great time for one of the NCAA's all-time great scorers to reach that elusive 30-point mark against a subpar Colorado State backcourt defense in the tournament.
