The 2025 Texas football recruiting class faces a string of mid-to-late summer decisions in the next few weeks that will surely impact its standing in the national class rankings. Texas is looking for another top five or top 10 recruiting class in the nation for the 2025 cycle.

Where will the next 2025 commitment for Texas football come from in mid-July?

But getting that elusive fourth straight top five ranked recruiting class in the nation for 2025 will be a pretty difficult path for head coach Steve Sarkisian and staff entering the fall. Texas missed out on some important targets on the recruiting trail for the class of 2025 in the last few weeks.

Texas's path to a fourth-straight top five ranked recruiting class likely needed them to land the elite five-star wide receiver from Duncanville (TX) High School, Dakorien Moore. The Longhorns whiffing on five-star cornerback Dorian Brew and four-star defensive lineman Josiah Sharma also didn't make their path to another top-five ranked class any easier.

There was some good news for the Longhorns on the recruiting trail for the 2025 cycle in the last couple of weeks, though. It was no small feat for the Longhorns staff to get two key blue-chip commitments on the defensive side of the ball for 2025, four-star EDGE Smith Orogbo and four-star DB Kade Phillips.

Here are three commitments the Longhorns could realistically get in the boat in the 2025 class in the next seven or 10 days.

Jonathan Cunningham, LB

Decision date: July 12

The next key target on the recruiting trail for Texas set to announce this summer is high-three-star Fort Worth (TX) North Crowley linebacker Jonathan Cunningham. The TCU Horned Frogs, Utah Utes, and Texas are the three finalist schools Cunningham will decide between at his announcement on July 12.

Texas has been the favorite in this recruitment since Cunningham had a successful mid-June official visit to Austin. Utah has made a big late push in this recruitment, and TCU is also promising an earlier path to the field for playing time than the Longhorns could at linebacker for Cunningham.

But the ability to develop and play in the SEC over the next few years in college at Texas are big factors that appeal to Cunningham in his recruitment.

Pete Kwiatkowski, Johnny Nansen, and the Longhorns need to take at least two or three linebackers in the 2025 class after taking just one in the previous cycle, four-star Tyanthony Smith. There's a good chance today that Cunningham joins Dallas (TX) Skyline four-star Elijah Barnes as the two linebacker commitments in the Longhorns class for 2025.
