3 commitments Texas can get in the next week

There are a few very noteworthy decisions from key 2025 Texas recruits worth watching on the trail in the next four or five days.

Kelshaun Johnson, WR

Expected decision date*: July 15

Four-star Hitchcock (TX) wide receiver Kelshaun Johnson has already delayed his decision multiple times this week due to the damage caused by Hurricane Beryl in the Houston area. It looks like Johnson will decide between the Longhorns and the Texas A&M Aggies at some point early next week, likely on July 15 (from the intel we have from this recruitment as of late this week).

Had Johnson's decision been made earlier this week when it was originally scheduled for July 8, Texas A&M was probably going to be the sizable favorite to land his commitment. But Texas has really been pushing with heightened communication and likely a more favorable pitch to Johnson to get in the boat as the possible first wide receiver commitment in the Longhorns 2025 class this summer.

Orangebloods' Jason Suchomel reported on July 11 (subscriber content) that Texas A&M remained at least the slight leader in this recruitment entering the weekend over Texas. But Texas reportedly has closed the gap at least a bit this week, and we will see over the next 48-72 hours if the Longhorns can really make the Aggies sweat ahead of Johnson's decision.

At receiver, Texas is also targeting Lovejoy four-star Daylan McCutcheon, Dekaney four-star Tanook Hines, Katy Jordan four-star Andrew Marsh, and Sachse five-star Kaliq Lockett, among the in-staters in the 2025 class this summer.

Lockett and five-star from Florida Jaime Ffrench are the two top remaining wide receiver targets for this cycle for Sarkisian and the Longhorns, with August decisions looming for both.

It would still be a fantastic haul at wide receiver for the Longhorns in the 2025 class if they could pull off landing Lockett, Ffrench, and Johnson entering the fall on the recruiting trail.
