Texas's highest priority in-state linebacker in the 2025 class entering the summer is the elite McKinney (TX) high-four-star Riley Pettijohn. The No. 34 prospect nationally in the 2025 class in the 247Sports Composite is Texas's other top target at the linebacker position for this cycle, along with current Longhorns commit Barnes.

Pettijohn has visited Texas more than any other school early this offseason. He had multiple successful visits to Texas in the last few months, including for the spring football game on April 20. Pettijohn also visited Texas unofficially for the first Junior Day of the offseason on Jan. 20.

Texas coaches have maintained constant communication with Pettijohn since last offseason. Inside Texas reported on May 7 (paid content) that Sarkisian and co-DCs/LB coaches Johnny Nansen and Pete Kwiatkowski have consistently talked with Pettijohn since he wrapped up his latest unofficial visit a few weeks ago for the spring game.

Nansen and PK reportedly stopped by McKinney High School in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex to visit Pettijohn earlier this week.

Pettijohn is scheduled to officially visit Texas during one of those big visit weekends in mid-to-late June. He visits Texas (June 14) the weekend before he's scheduled to take an official trip to College Station to see the Texas A&M Aggies (June 21).

If Texas knocks it out of the park with Pettijohn during his mid-June official visit, that could get the Longhorns over the finish line in this recruitment before the start of his senior season at McKinney High School.
