3 emergency transfer RB options for Texas this fall
Demarkcus Bowman
Former school: UCF
The former elite five-star running back recruit from the 2020 class, Lakeland's (FL) Demarkcus Bowman, is in the transfer portal for the third time in his collegiate career this offseason. Bowman originally committed to and signed with head coach Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers during the 2020 offseason.
He played one season at Clemson before transferring to the Florida Gators during the 2021 offseason. Bowman transferred to his third school ahead of the 2023 season, where he joined the UCF Knights and head coach Gus Malzahn for one year playing in the Big 12 (although he never played against the Longhorns).
There are a handful of reasons why Bowman would make sense as a hypothetical running back target if the Longhorns looked in the portal to add a body here in the next couple of weeks.
First, Bowman is a really talented back who can run between the tackles or bounce it outside for bigger gains on the ground. Bowman hasn't fulfilled his immense potential and talent level yet, but he does have the tools to be an elite back physically at the college level.
Another connection for Bowman with the Longhorns stems from when he was recruited by the Alabama Crimson Tide out of high school. Current Texas special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks and Sarkisian were two of Alabama's top recruiters pursuing Bowman on the trail in the 2020 class.
