3 emerging leaders for Texas entering preseason camp
Barryn Sorrell, EDGE
Texas's EDGE position is in as good of shape as its been under Sarkisian and Pete Kwiatkowski in their four years with the Longhorns' coaching staff since 2021. Led by a trio of upperclassmen who will be prominent in the SEC for Texas's defensive front this fall, including senior Barryn Sorrell, junior Ethan Burke, and redshirt junior UTSA transfer Trey Moore, the EDGE room is pretty scary for the Longhorns.
Sorrell is a great story of one of the players that has developed the best year-over-year in PK's defensive scheme in the last few seasons for the Longhorns. He's been arguably the most consistent run-stopping edge rusher and pressure guy off the EDGE for the Longhorns in the last couple of seasons.
Another point of value Sorrell brings to Texas's defense that shouldn't be overlooked by the Longhorns faithful entering preseason camp is his leadership for this position group this year. Sorrell has been a vocal leader in the locker room and a leader by example in the strength and conditioning program this entire offseason for Texas.
"I think, number one, Barryn Sorrell has done a great job stepping up into that leadership role for the defense."
- Quinn Ewers on Barryn Sorrell
Sorrell is a great example of the type of guy that sets the tone for the culture that's built in the locker room and on the practice field. He's seen what it takes for the Longhorns to put the type of work ethic out there in the weight room and on the practice field to reach the heights Texas has regarding success in the win column in the last couple of years, especially making the CFP last season.
