Colin Simmons, EDGE

True freshman edge rusher Colin Simmons has already exceeded expectations for the impact he's had on the Longhorns' pass rush just three games into his collegiate career this fall. And that says a lot since Simmons was an uber-talented five-star recruit coming out of high school in the 2024 class.

In the last two games alone, Simmons has registered double-digit quarterback pressures, two sacks, and the best pass-rush win percentage of any true freshman in the SEC (19.9 percent). Simmons is already showing that confidence and promising talent when he speaks with the media.

"I'm just getting started. That's the crazy thing. I'm just now getting started. The more comfortable I get in college football, the more — I've just got a lot in me."

To add to that impressive start to Simmons' true freshman campaign at Texas, he leads the team in quarterback pressures and sacks after the season's first three games.

Simmons' impact on Texas's defense goes beyond his production in the pass rush, though. He's been a productive run defender, registering multiple run stops in the three games early this season.

In Texas's dominant 56-7 win over UTSA last weekend, Simmons registered a half-dozen combined tackles, two tackles for loss, and one sack. He played a big role in helping Texas hold UTSA to a season-low 260 total yards of offense and under four yards per play last weekend, as Simmons led the team in tackles for loss and havoc plays on defense.

With how quick Simmons is improving and learning the defense in different phases up front, he's going to continue to be a disruptive force for Texas's front seven in the SEC this fall as a true freshman.
