A couple of hours ago, Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian wrapped up their second and final scrimmage of fall practice on Aug. 17. While the intensity was still pretty strong, based on what we've seen from various scrimmage reports this afternoon, Texas didn't go full contact with live tackling for the entire scrimmage.

Texas football gearing up for the stretch run of preseason camp with the second fall scrimmage in the books this afternoon

Texas was live tackling for around half of the scrimmage today, with the second half being more focused on something akin to a live walkthrough to get some good reps in around the goal line and the red zone.

Like the first fall scrimmage last weekend, the Longhorns worked on 11-on-11, the two-minute drill, and one-on-ones in simulated live-game drills for the team at different positions on each side of the ball.

It was the defensive side of the ball that stole the show for the Longhorns, winning the first fall scrimmage last Saturday over inconsistent performers from the first and second-team offensive units. But today's scrimmage sounded much more evenly-matched, which is something you would expect in the second day of scrimmaging after working out some of the kinks and errors from the first scrimmage in full pads just a few weeks into camp.

Here are three initial reactions and takeaways from Texas's second and last scrimmage of fall camp.

Offensive line shuffling due to an injury along the interior this week

For good reason, a large portion of the discussion in various media and fan circles for the Longhorns coming out of the second fall scrimmage this afternoon concerned potential injury updates. More specifically, Texas needed a clean day of practice and scrimmage reps to really feel good entering the final stretch run in the last couple of weeks of preseason camp before the regular season opener.

The good news for the Longhorns after this scrimmage today is that initial reports are indicating there weren't any significant injuries to note this afternoon. Orangebloods' Anwar Richardson had reported (subscriber content) that senior center Jake Majors was held out of today's scrimmage due to precautionary reasons for a lower-body injury he's been dealing with in this week of camp.

It sounds like Majors is working through an ankle injury, but that it shouldn't be anything serious that keeps him out for any extended period of time entering the regular season in a couple of weeks in late August against CSU.

With Majors being held out of the scrimmage today for precaution, senior guard Hayden Conner reportedly shifted over to center with the first-team offensive line. Junior Cole Hutson took the reps at first-team left guard, which is Conner's usual spot with the first-team O-Line this fall camp.
