The priority target for the Longhorns that will probably be the next to commit to them in the 2025 class is the touted four-star Shreveport (LA) Calvary Baptist running back James Simon. It seems very likely that Texas will be the pick when Simon announces on May 29.

Simon is deciding between the Alabama Crimson Tide, LSU, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and Texas entering his May 29 commitment date.

From the start of this recruitment, it looked like LSU was the favorite to keep the blue-chip running back in-state. But recent events have changed the outlook for Simon's recruitment this spring.

LSU taking two running back commitments already in its class for 2025 has reportedly put Texas as the clear favorite to land Simon late this spring. Assuming Simon does announce his commitment to Texas in roughly 48 hours, he would be the second running back for the Longhorns in the 2025 class along with Tyler (TX) Chapel Hill four-star Rickey Stewart.

Texas is the consensus favorite to get their second (and likely the final one) running back commitment in the 2025 class before summer visits start up in June. This would be another successful cycle recruiting at running back for Tashard Choice and the Longhorns to get two blue-chip targets locked in before summer visits are even able to begin next month.
