3 key recruits Texas visited last weekend
Kelshaun Johnson, WR (Texas A&M commit)
Texas and wide receivers coach Chris Jackson are still pursuing multiple in-state wide receiver flip targets in the 2025 class this fall on the trail. The Longhorns are obviously still keeping tabs on the elite five-star Duncanville (TX) wide receiver and Oregon Ducks commit Dakorien Moore this fall.
But the most realistic in-state flip targets at wide receiver for the Longhorns in the 2025 class over the next couple of months will be a trio of four-star prospects at the position. Lucas (TX) Lovejoy's Daylan McCutcheon (Florida State commit), Hitchcock's (TX) Kelshaun Johnson (Texas A&M commit), and Spring (TX) Dekaney's Tanook Hines (USC commit) are the three in-state wideouts Texas is still looking at among blue-chips at the position in the 2025 class.
Last week, Sarkisian made a stop at Hitchcock High School in the Houston area to see a couple of key Texas flip targets in the 2025 class, Johnson and four-star Nebraska Cornhuskers defensive line commit Malcolm Simpson.
Texas is still communicating with Johnson this fall since he committed to Texas A&M over the Longhorns back in the summer in mid-July. Simpson is also someone on offer watch for the Longhorns in the 2025 class, and has already made a gameday visit to Texas this fall.
The difficulty here for the Longhorns in Johnson's recruitment is the low likelihood of flipping him from Texas A&M, given the trajectory of the program under first-year head coach Mike Elko. The Aggies are coming off a very impressive and dominant 41-10 win at home at Kyle Field last weekend over the No. 9 Mizzou Tigers.
At the moment, it appears that flipping McCutcheon from Florida State is probably the most likely route for Texas to get a third wide receiver commit in the 2025 class, with Johnson being next up after that at the position.
