3 most important August announcements for Texas recruits

The month of August will see some of Texas football's top priority recruits in the 2025 class make their decisions in the upcoming weeks. Multiple key five-star priority targets on the recruiting trail for Texas for this cycle will have decided where they will attend college at some point this month.

Texas football could load up on 5-Star commitments in the 2025 class late this summer

With so many top high school recruits making their decisions before the start of their senior seasons, head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns know that most of their class has to be in place before September. Since Texas has 16 commitments currently in the 2025 class entering the month of August on the trail, it's realistic that they'll get two or three more before month's end.

Texas also has some other important announcements coming up in the next few weeks for the 2025 cycle, including a handful from key three and four-star recruits that haven't made their decision timelines public yet.

Here are three of the most important priority recruits for the Longhorns in the 2025 class who are committing in August before or early on in their senior seasons.

Kaliq Lockett, WR

Decision date: Aug. 7

The first big decision date for a priority five-star recruit in the 2025 class for Sarkisian and the Longhorns staff is Sachse (TX) wide receiver Kaliq Lockett, who announces on Aug. 7. Lockett will decide between Texas and four other finalist schools, including the Florida State Seminoles, Alabama Crimson Tide, LSU Tigers, and Texas A&M Aggies next Wednesday.

Texas has been the leader in this recruitment since the conclusion of June official visits. Florida State and Alabama have made things interesting for the Longhorns in the last few weeks with Lockett's recruitment. But there hasn't been any recent reporting or discussion surrounding Lockett's upcoming decision next week that would make me think Texas has been knocked out of the pole position.

There's a really good chance that Lockett becomes the first wide receiver recruit in the 2025 cycle to commit to the Longhorns during his announcement ceremony on the afternoon of Aug. 7.
