3 new transfer targets Texas has scouted this week
Simeon Barrow Jr., DT
The other defensive tackle target the Longhorns have kicked the tires on from Michigan State this spring is senior Simeon Barrow Jr. The 6-foot-3 and 290-pound fourth-year defensive tackle from Grovetown, GA, was one of the most productive players along Michigan State's defensive front in the last few seasons.
Over his three seasons as a starter along Michigan State's defensive line, Barrow registered over 100 combined tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, 79 quarterback pressures, one batted ball, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.
Barrow was a reliable presence for Michigan State's defensive front as an interior run defender and pass rusher in the last few seasons. He ranked in the top half of starting defensive tackles in the Big Ten in each of the last two seasons in run defense grade and pass rush grade (per PFF).
From what's been reported regarding Texas's pursuit of Barrow in the portal in the last few days, it sounds like he is the priority at defensive tackle if something doesn't work out with Williams. Texas has reportedly talked with Barrow about a potential visit at some point in the next week.
If Texas does miss out on the Williams sweepstakes in the portal this upcoming week when he announces, it wouldn't surprise me to see the Longhorns' coaches really pushing to get Barrow to campus for a visit next weekend.
