Brooks was the first player who started double-digit games for the Longhorns last season who has entered the portal so far this offseason. While it sounds like there weren't any hard feelings between Brooks and the Texas coaches when he declared his intentions to enter the portal last week, it can still impact a secondary that is trying to build more cohesion entering the SEC in 2024.

The departure of Brooks via the portal has left the Longhorns looking for some potential immediate impact transfers to bolster the secondary entering fall camp. Among the corners in the transfer portal this spring, former Arizona Wildcats junior Tacario Davis would have to be considered the grand prize for the Longhorns to target.

While Davis entered the portal a few months ago, he still participated in spring ball with new head coach Brent Brennan and the Wildcats to give that new staff a chance. Brennan reportedly said that Davis has "not confirmed if he intends to remain with Arizona" post-spring camp.

Davis played for new Texas co-DC/LB coach Johnny Nansen when he was Arizona's defensive coordinator last season. There are some connections for Texas in this portal recruitment if Davis did decide he wants to leave Arizona in the coming days.

Nansen has already brought multiple defensive players with him from Arizona via the portal this offseason, including Norton and fellow grad transfer defensive tackle Tia Savea.

Davis is about as good as it gets regarding transfer cornerbacks in the portal this offseason. He ranked fifth in the FBS in pass breakups (15) last season and was the Pac-12's highest graded cornerback in pass coverage (per PFF).
