3 priority Texas blue-chip recruits announcing this week
Kaleb Edwards, TE
Commitment date: July 2
Four-star El Dorado Hills (CA) Oak Ridge tight end Kaleb Edwards is one of two recruits who officially visited Texas this summer from the 2025 class that are set to announce on July 2. Texas has a shot to pull in a pair of commitments at key positions for this cycle if they can land both target recruits from California on Tuesday, Edwards and Jones.
The Alabama Crimson Tide, Oregon Ducks, Auburn Tigers, UCLA Bruins, Washington, and Texas all got official visits late in the spring and early in the summer from Edwards. That is roughly the list of schools he's expected to decide between on July 2 during his announcement ceremony.
One big factor in deciding where Edwards ends up committing to in the 2025 class this week is the looming decision of high-four-star Spring (TX) Dekaney tight end Nick Townsend early next week. Townsend is set to announce on July 8, and the Longhorns are in a great spot to win that recruitment on Monday.
Since Texas already has one tight end committed in the 2025 class this offseason, Calhoun (GA) four-star Emaree Winston, getting Townsend in the boat would officially close the book on recruiting at the position for Jeff Banks for this cycle.
Alabama was very high on Townsend entering summer official visits in early June. But with Texas in the best spot to land Townsend early next week, I'd peg Edwards as the favorite to be the next tight end committed to the Crimson Tide in their 2025 class on July 2.
