3 realistic Texas baseball head coaching candidates
Jim Schlossnagle, Texas A&M head coach
The home run target that the Longhorns and CDC have been linked to quite a bit today is Texas A&M Aggies head coach Jim Schlossnagle. The resume and connections Schlossnagle has with the Longhorns speaks for itself.
As I'm writing this article on June 24, Schlossnagle and the Aggies are one win away from winning the College World Series and the program's first national title in history. Schlossnagle also has a chance to win his first national title as a college baseball head coach over two decades, dating back to his start with the UNLV Rebels in 2002.
The connection between Schlossnagle and the Longhorns is obvious, with his ties to CDC dating back to their time together at TCU. CDC and Schlossnagle worked together at TCU for nearly a decade (2009-2017).
Horns247 also mentioned in a piece regarding Texas's coaching search on June 24 the fact that current Texas A&M athletic director Trev Alberts was not the one who hired Schlossnagle for the Aggies in 2021.
We all know it would take a lot of money to get Schlossnagle out of College Station. Texas A&M will do everything it can to keep Schloss out of Austin. But the possibility is there that Texas can offer him enough money and resources to lure him to the Forty Acres, especially given his relationship with CDC that dates back over a decade.
The timing is clearly interesting given that Texas parted ways with Pierce on the same day that Schloss is coaching the Aggies in the final game of the 2024 season in the College World Series against Tennessee.
There is a lot of smoke right now between Texas and Schloss as a possible coaching candidate. You can't completely ignore it when things like this happen on the coaching carousel.
