3 reasons why Quinn Ewers will win the Heisman
Elite supporting cast and an experienced offensive line
Ewers' calm demeanor and veteran presence leading this offense has translated to give more confidence and steadiness from the rest of the supporting cast for the Longhorns this fall. The maturity Ewers has in his third season in Sarkisian's offense has shown up in multiple ways this season.
One impressive stat that proves just how much Ewers has progressed with his patience and composure getting the ball out on time from the pocket is his efficiency on throws under pressure from the opposing defenses. Ewers is the second-highest-graded quarterback in the SEC after the first two weeks while coming under pressure in the pocket.
Ewers has completed over 50 percent of his passing attempts when he's come under pressure and when he's blitzed this season, for over 100 passing yards and two passing touchdowns. This is the first time in Ewers' collegiate career that he has completed over 50 percent of his pass attempts, both on dropbacks when put under pressure and when blitzed in the pocket (per PFF).
Texas has so many weapons at the skill spots and speed on the outside that Ewers doesn't need to be Superman on every play to get the ball where it needs to go to get all of their elite playmakers out in space to generate big plays and pick up valuable yards after the catch.
It's crazy to think that Texas might not even have a clear leader or top target receiver this season. Ewers and the Texas offense has so many weapons that Sarkisian doesn't even need to hide many of his pre-snap motion looks and offensive game plans early in the season.
