3-Star Texas DB target Nathan Tilmon decommits from SMU
This has been a very busy week for defensive back recruiting for the Texas football program in the 2025 class. Texas has hosted a half-dozen defensive backs as official visitors from the 2025 class between June 18 and 23.
3-Star DB Nathan Tilmon decommits from SMU three days after his Texas football official visit
One of the defensive backs who officially visited Texas midweek this week, three-star Arlington (TX) Mansfield Timberview product Nathan Tilmon, decided to re-open his recruitment late this weekend.
Tilmon announced on his X account on the evening of June 23 that he has decommitted from the SMU Mustangs a few days after the conclusion of his official visit to Texas.
Texas isn't the only school making a push for Tilmon on the recruiting trail this summer. The Utah Utes and Texas Tech Red Raiders have also been in communication with Tilmon since the spring evaluation period.
Tilmon visited Salt Lake City to see longtime head coach Kyle Whittingham and the Utes earlier this month, too.
Texas jumped in Tilmon's recruitment pretty late. Safeties coach Blake Gideon and the Longhorns made a smart move to officially offer Tilmon a few weeks ago. Just two and a half weeks after Texas extended an offer to Tilmon, he was on campus for a midweek official visit from June 18-20.
On the first day of Tilmon's midweek official visit to Texas on June 18, Horns247's Hank South crystal-balled him to commit to the Longhorns (with six out of 10 confidence).
Gideon and the Longhorns staff like the speed, ranginess, and size that the 6-foot-1 and 180-pound safety from the DFW Metroplex brings to the table. Tilmon also checked the boxes for the Longhorns during his official visit from a mental evaluation and culture fit perspective.
Texas currently has one defensive back committed in the 2025 class, three-star Missouri City (TX) Fort Bend Marshall cornerback Caleb Chester. Tilmon is among around a half-dozen defensive back targets that are now uncommitted that the Longhorns are targeting in the 2025 class this summer.
