Texas's key rivalries here to stay?

A hot topic at the SEC spring meetings was the Longhorns' restored rivalries with longtime foes like the Texas A&M Aggies and Arkansas Razorbacks. Texas will play all three of its biggest rivals in the new-look SEC this fall, including Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.

The Oklahoma rivalry obviously has continued on throughout the last decade or so as the Longhorns and Sooners remained conference foes in the Big 12. But the in-state showdown with the Aggies is the longest dormant rivalry among the three Texas will play this upcoming season in the SEC.

Sarkisian specifically stated how he's looking forward to getting back to the rivalry being played on the field between Texas and Texas A&M this fall.

"I'm excited. I've been a part of some great rivalries, and we get two great rivalries back by joining the SEC with Arkansas and Texas A&M. We're looking forward to it. I've competed against Mike when he was the defensive coordinator at A&M and I was the offensive coordinator at Alabama.

New Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko was singled out by Sarkisian as being one rivalry that will be particularly fun this upcoming season in the SEC. It should be a great matchup to watch the offensive-minded Texas head coach Sarkisian face the new defensive-minded Texas A&M head coach Elko in College Station this fall.

"We should play them. When you have two programs like that in the same state two hours away they should play every year and it should mean a lot."
