A massive loss for Texas A&M came on June 26 when star sophomore outfielder Jace LaViolette reportedly (per On3's Pete Nakos) entered the transfer portal. The big 6-foot-6 and 230-pound left-handed batter from Katy, TX, is one of the most powerful and consistent hitters in college baseball in 2024.

LaViolette has been electric at the plate since the moment he arrived in College Station over 18 months ago. He was a D1Baseball Freshman All-American and a Baseball American All-America Second-Team honoree as a freshman and first-year starter in 2023.

LaViolette only got better with his defense and production at the plate during his sophomore campaign in 2024, where he earned Baseball America First-Team All-America honors. He led the team in home runs (29) and was second in runs batted in (78). Laviolette also hit for a batting average north of .310 and had a sparkling 1.175 OPS in 2024.

A projected future early-round MLB Draft pick, LaViolette has to be one of Schloss and Texas's top portal targets this offseason. He would be an immediate difference maker who could take Texas's bats to a new level in 2025.

I think there's a great chance that Texas could be a major player in LaViolette's portal recruitment. Texas needs help in the outfield entering the SEC in 2025. And Schloss was the coach that recruited LaViolette to College Station a couple of years ago.
