Texas has reportedly looked like an impressive squad in the backcourt and on the wing early this summer.

Another impressive transfer guard who has made his presence known early in summer workouts for the Longhorns is former Oregon State Beavers sophomore floor general Jordan Pope. The No. 3 transfer combo guard in the On3 Industry Ranking has garnered attention and praise early this summer for his ability to shoot the basketball and command the offense as the floor general.

Oregon State's leading scorer and distributor from each of the last two seasons has seen his skills on the offensive end of the floor translate immediately at Texas this summer. His ability to create his own offense and make difficult contested shots has reportedly shown up as expected in team workouts this offseason.

I've pointed out before how critical it was going to be for Pope to get adjusted to the more up-tempo, free-flowing style Terry likes to run on offense and in transition. Pope played in one of the slowest-tempo offenses in college basketball in the last couple of seasons at Oregon State in the Pac-12.

It goes without saying that it's important for Pope to be able to carve out a role for himself as one of the more versatile and effective offensive playmakers in Texas's backcourt rotation. Texas has a much deeper and more skilled backcourt unit than it did last season, and Pope should be a critical component of this group's ability to move the ball and create efficient offense consistently.
