Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian are now through two full days of fall practice after camp wrapped up on Thursday afternoon (Aug. 1). The media viewing window for the first day of fall practice on July 31 was much longer than the one provided today.

New additions for Texas football shine on Day 2 of preseason camp

But there are still plenty of nuggets and notes to unpack after two days of fall practice for the Longhorns, with exactly 30 days remaining until the regular season opener.

Texas was in helmets and shorts for the first two days of fall practice this week. That is expected to be the case again when the Longhorns hit the Denius Fields for the third practice of the week on Aug. 2.

It is still yet to be known whether the Longhorns will have their first fall scrimmage this upcoming weekend. Granted, it would not be all that surprising to see Sarkisian and the Texas coaching staff give the players a rest this weekend after three straight days of practice late this week.

Here are three players who impressed for the Longhorns on the second day of preseason camp on Aug. 1.

Tyanthony Smith, LB

True freshman linebacker Tyanthony Smith has been working with the third-team defense in practice for the first two days of camp this week. It sounds like Smith has performed well in individual and team defense drills through the first two days of fall practice.

The area where we've really heard a lot about Smith turning heads through the first couple of fall practices is on special teams. Smith has shown a lot of effort and consistency with the special teams coverage units in practice.

Inside Texas reported on Aug. 1 that Smith made a really nice play as a gunner with the punt coverage unit, bringing down senior wide receiver Silas Bolden as possibly the last line of defense before he housed the return.

Running backs coach Tashard Choice was reportedly really fired up by Smith's play that he made with the special teams coverage unit to get Bolden down before he returned the punt for a touchdown.

From what we've heard coming out of fall camp this week and the last few weeks of summer workouts, Smith is a likely candidate to be an impact player on special teams for Jeff Banks and the Longhorns this fall.
