3 Texas underclassmen winning starting jobs early in camp
DeAndre Moore Jr., WR
Possibly the biggest competition regarding top position battles in the second half of preseason camp for the Longhorns will be in the receiving corps. Texas has six or seven guys competing for three to five spots in the wide receiver rotation for this upcoming season.
Getting the first-team reps at wideout through most of the first half of preseason camp for the Longhorns was sophomore Johntay Cook II, sophomore DeAndre Moore Jr., and junior Isaiah Bond. We've also seen some rotations between the first and the second-team wideout units in fall practice, including junior Matthew Golden, senior Silas Bolden, and true freshman Ryan Wingo sliding up to the top offensive unit at times in the last couple of weeks.
I definitely think Moore has solidified his spot in the top group of likely four or five wideouts entering the regular season for Sarkisian and Chris Jackson this fall. He's done well to solidify the spot on the two-deep at slot wideout that was occupied for the last few seasons by Jordan Whittington for the Longhorns.
Not only has Moore been one of Texas's most consistency route runners and pass-catchers in the first few weeks of preseason camp, but he's also been one of the more willing blockers. He's probably the most consistent high-effort and most willing blocker when you talk about the combination of those two factors among all Texas wideouts when they're getting out in the open field and blocking in team drills and the scrimmage last weekend.
